Our Story

About Hamilton Presbyterian Church

Presbyterian churches are often the offspring of established churches, and in 1899 William W. Kirk, a member of Faith Presbyterian planted the seed that grew into Hamilton Presbyterian Church. Founded in 1901, by Feb. 1902 a small wooden chapel had been completed just past the corner on east Hamilton Avenue. By 1910 the congregation had outgrown the chapel on Hamilton Ave, and a plan to build a new granite church was initiated. Building progressed rapidly and the new edifice was dedicated in September 1915. Westminster Hall was added in 1951. The city of Baltimore grew around the Hamilton community.  Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the area became more urban and evolved as a mixed-race middle-class neighborhood.

Currently, the Session is composed of the pastor and 3 Elders. There are 5 members on the Board of Deacons and 5 Trustees.
